Winston

Gorgeous boy

About a week after Gigi was adopted, ACR contacted me about Winston. One of ACR’s volunteers trapped him while feeding a colony she maintains. She has fed the colony for years and knows well each cat in it so when this little grey ball of fur appeared from nowhere and butted his way through the big cats to get to the food bowl, she trapped him and took him home. She estimated he was about 7 weeks old but I think he was probably a bit older. Either way, he came to us needing socialization about a week ago. He’s medium hair, possibly even long hair is full of energy. When he first arrived he just hid from us and when we tried to get him, he hissed. Unlike Gigi, there was no growling though and once you have him in your hands, he stays there because turns out Winston LOVES to be petted and rubbed. He immediately relaxes and starts purring. He has made a lot of progress in a week – he’ll sleep in our bed with the other cats, will come to us to play, but his first instinct when you walk towards him is still to run and hide. But he’s coming around!

Here’s a video of Winston playing with his foster brothers:

I’m so glad I found your blog. I immediately related (<3) to it for a number of reasons. I'm a happy mother of 3 rescued cats. I'm also brazilian, even though I don't feel brazilian at all (I don't even like soccer). In fact, My partner and I are preparing to become PRs in Canada…or, as I like to say 'I'm a Canadian waiting to happen!'. On top of that, I just luv photography. Anyway, I have a question for you: here in Florianópolis we have protective nets on our windows and balcony to prevent our cats from falling or even escaping. I have never seen those in canadian pics. Do they exist in Canada? How do you protect your (beeeeautiful) cats? Congrats 4 the great blog andThanx, Ju ( =^.^=)

    Hi Juliana,

Welcome to building bridges! As far as I know, most buildings (at least high risers) have screens on the windows. You can’t really see it from the outside, but there’s often two windows (for proper insulation in the window) and one screen. In some buildings, you cant even open the windows! I think they have to have extra protection because of children but it works for the pets as well. You’ll just have to check when you get here whether they allow pets (many buildings don’t) and if they do, what kind of windows they have…

Just out of curiosity, where are you thinking of moving to?

      Hi, Alexandra

Thanx for the tips. We’re applying for Quebec’s immigration program, mostly because our occupations are not on the Federal program’s list of preferential skilled workers , so we’re probably going to live in Montreal for a while. However, since my partner works with CG (film post-production), Toronto and Vancouver are actually our best options. I think Vancouver is way too far from everything for me. We are going to spend a couple of days in Toronto next September, and visit friends in Montreal. Hopefully, this trip will help us organize our plans or, even better, speed them up:)

      Juliana
