Every year, I make all kinds of resolutions only to completely ignore them for the next 12 months. Actually, that’s not true. I did accomplish quite a bit this year:
- I finished a draft of my dissertation over the summer.
- I got to teach a course I’ve always wanted to
- I slowly started getting back to photography by experimenting with new old film cameras
- I’ve made quite significant advances in my attempts to eat more locally by subscribing to a CSA
- I’ve replaced all cleaning products used in our household for more natural, less toxic products. A recent revelation has been the usefulness of Castile soap.
For next year, I want to:
- Defend my thesis. There’s some revision work left to do and the plan to finish that within the next two months to guarantee a Summer graduation.
- De-clutter. I have real issues with throwing out stuff, which means that after a while, our apartment start looking very cluttered. It’s time to de-clutter, find new homes for stuff we dont want/need/use. Plus, we might be moving in 2011 so all the more reason to get going on that. Less is more is the mantra for the year.
- Exercise. I usually try to start everything at once (Yoga 3 times a week, running, swimming, weights) and don’t last beyond a week. This time I’ll start small – one yoga class a week and build from that.
- Not spread myself quite so thin. This is the hard one. I don’t have a problem saying no to things when I don’t want to do it but I have a real problem not getting involved in anything that really grabs my interest. Considering how diverse my interests are, this results in an overload of projects.
- Find some time to read more fiction.

Olá Alexandra! Feliz ano novo!
Sara
